This girl is a co-ed champion :)

So I told you all Wednesday about my history in softball, and how we played again that evening.
The team we played first was the law school team, and they play together really well because they play together in a lot of the intramural games. I honestly think they were one of the best teams in the tournament, they just had some bad luck.

They were ahead of us by 7 at one point in the game. We were home team, so we got to bat last. We came from behind in the last inning to beat them by 1 run! That meant that we played again at 8 that evening. The second team we played was a paired fraternity and sorority team. They were a pretty good team as well, and we ended up winning 5-2.

We were to play again at 6 yesterday, against the only other undefeated team. For some reason, we weren't playing as well as we had the two previous days. We came from behind in the last inning again to win that game. This means we were in the championship game, had to be beat twice in order for the last team to win. The game started off with a little bad luck for us, we didn't win the coin toss and were visitors. We had quite a few errors, and we didn't hit very well. We got beat the first game. My team is just as competitive as I am, and they also didn't want us to lose at all. The second game around, we won the toss and were home team. At the end of regulation, we were tied 8-8. I was crazy nervous. seriously. In the top of the 6th, we held them to 2 runs, and they were up 10-8. My girl Cierra hit the game winning hit to put us up 11-10! WE WON THE ALL-CAMPUS INTRAMURAL CO-ED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT!! We get "Champion" t-shirts :)

I remembered why I used to like softball. I had a great team. And winning the whole tournament helped a lot too!

I have quite a few battle scars from the week of playing including scratches, bruises, and sore muscles. But my ego is bigger than ever because the guys basically told me all week that I'm a good player.

Right now, I'm back home in Sperry enjoying some time with the fam for Easter weekend. Tomorrow I get to dye eggs with Em and Han. It's going to be a fantastic weekend :)

Have a great Easter friends!

A Tale of an Ex-Softball Player

If you didn't know it, I once upon a time used to be a softball player. I played on my first team when I was 8, and played every season after that until I graduated high school. If you count the separate seasons between school ball and summer league (competitive), I played about 16 different seasons. I was a pitcher and an outfielder until I hit my junior year in high school. We got a new coach, and the coach put my long legs to use on first. I wasn't terrible, but I wasn't the greatest either. I got a little bit of recognition my senior year when I was selected for all-conference, all-district (7), all-region, and all-state alternate. My batting average kept me from all-state because I was TERRIBLE at batting and I didn't bat very often. I also got a little bit of recognition when I had 3-4 junior colleges interested in me coming to play post-high school.

I don't tell you all this to brag, I just tell you this to explain my history. In the summer, I mostly played with the same girls that were on the school team. We were the Sperry Thunder, and our colors were purple and yellow. We would win some, we'd lose some, we'd win tournaments, we'd get our 5 games and then lose out of tournaments. Some weeks, we were really on. Some weeks, we were really off. And it seemed that no matter who we played, there was always one inning that we sucked ass. (I can say that on here, it's my blog.)

It might have been my freshman year, I'm not exactly sure, but we were playing with our summer league team. We only had 2 pitchers on the team (me being one of them), and the other pitcher got a knee injury during a game. I had to pitch a lot while she was recovering. It was around this time that I started to HATE softball. My shoulder always hurt, and icy hot no longer worked for me. We switched to biofreeze, and it would be okay during the first couple of innings then would wear off. SO, one of the coaches of our team went to Atwoods and picked up some horse liniment. Yes you read that right. I used this stuff before every single game:
WHO DOES THAT?! But it was the only thing that loosened up my shoulder muscles enough for long enough that it didn't hurt too bad after play.
Along with the liniment, I was also popping 6-8 ibuprofen or tylenol to keep it from hurting. I'm surprised I still have a stomach or liver.

Since I've been in college, I decided that I didn't hate softball as much as I thought I did, I just was tired of it at the time. Freshman year, I played on a co-ed team, and I got to play first base. The boys were amazed at how I wasn't scared of their hard and fast throws from across the diamond. I just wanted to make sure we got the out. Since then, I've played with that team a couple more times, and one of the guys told me he keeps my phone number just in case he ever needs a first baseman.

Sophomore year, I joined a sorority, so I played on their slow pitch team. For some reason we didn't have a team my junior year, and last year we were unable to play because the tournament was during initiation week. This year, we ran into the same problem with divisional softball. This is where we play against other sororities on campus. Our first game was at 5 on Thursday, with the second game either being at 9 or 10. We had an initiation ceremony at 10. I unfortunately had to take us out of the divisional tournament.

Sunday I got a text from one of my girls asking if she could play on a separate co-ed softball team. I couldn't find my house partners for the co-ed tournament, so she was free to play with them. I then asked if they needed anymore girls because I would like to play if they did.

We had our first two games last night. I only knew the girl from my house, and she knew 3 or 4 of the guys (I think). We pretty much all met each other for the first time last night at 5 p.m. But we somehow clicked. Our first game, I got put on first and batted 7th. We won 29-9! We had a couple errors on the field, but nothing that hurt us in the long run (obviously). We then came back to play at 7, had some new boys show up to play this time around, and I'm pretty sure our final score was 18-6....domination. I don't know any of these people besides my sorority sister, but we all get along really well and play together really well.

I also had a little bit of an ego boost after the game. The guy who played shortstop in the first game told me that he's really glad that I'm playing at first because he feels comfortable throwing the ball across the diamond to me. That's right, I'm a bad-ass first baseman :)

We play again tonight at 6. If we win, we play at 8. I'm not even going to jinx it and tell you about the other scenario. But I really do think that we have a good shot at playing pretty far in the bracket.

This team of random people has helped me remember why I used to love softball.

Happy Wednesday friends!

Weekend Recap

I am so sorry for not getting this out earlier today. Remember how I said this week is College Bowl week? Well I also had about 5 other things to do today. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Friday
I was the responsibility champion and I got shit done. No seriously. I got capstone paper revised (again) [I forgot to mention that I got to talk to my big the night before, I miss her so so so much], I got all of my College Bowl stuff worked on, and then I even got a few pages of notes from a class copied before the family arrived in town around 6:30. I drove from Norman to Moore, where Edith was so patiently waiting for me while Jessica and Ryan went to the VA hospital (Ryan was having abdominal pains). I watched Kenzie play two games on Friday night, and then I took Edith and MacKenzie to meet up with Ryan and Jessica to Taco Cabana for a late night dinner. Upon my arrival home, my roommate was passed out and I got to read a little bit before falling asleep in bliss because of my family :)

Saturday
I woke up a little extra early to really fix my hair, and then Edith and I went on an adventure to wal-mart to buy a new headlight for my car. On our way to Moore, we stopped at What-A-Burger for breakfast. I'm sure you know by now that I got a honey butter chicken biscuit :)
I watched Kenzie play a game, then we went to Saltgrass for lunch, and then she played a second game. I took the family to Fuzzy's Taco Shop on Campus Corner for dinner, and then hung out in their hotel room until I was sleepy.
I came home to roommate and Kaitlin in my room talking and watching The Ugly Truth. Rachel came in and joined us later, and they were in our room until 3:30 a.m. I had fallen asleep before then.

Sunday
I got up SO FREAKING EARLY to go watch Kenzie play one game. It was so freaking cold that I almost fell asleep at the fields from curling up into a ball. After the game, we went to Cheddar's for lunch, and then the family headed back home with some taffy and Classic's (similar to Sonic, but better) in tow. I was really sad to see them go, but I also was super tired so I passed out for a 4 hour nap. I meant to only nap for 2-3.
Chapter was longer than it should have been, and I was late to my college bowl meeting. Once I got there, we were informed that the fourth team member had no questions for us. I came back home to write more questions and more lightening round questions, and ended up staying up until almost 3. By the time I hit the pillow, I PASSED OUT.

Today, I was lucky enough to have both of my morning classes cancelled, so the only class I had began at 1:30. I inadvertently slept until noon. Once I got done with class, I had a couple hours of downtime before I had to work (I'm a referee for soccer) and then once I was done with work I went straight to College Bowl.

Tonight's college bowl rounds were a lot of fun! I didn't realize how much I would like reading questions off :)

My best friend Caroline who went on spring break with us ended up coming over for a little bit after college bowl, and she and I went and got some food at Classic's (like Sonic, but better), and now here I am updating you on the weekend and my super busy day. I unfortunately didn't take my camera out to the ball fields so I don't have any pictures to share :(

But on a good note, I have a cool Tell the World Tuesday feature coming up tomorrow, and my little piece of blog world was featured over at scenic glory as a part of a group sponsor post. Seriously, if you haven't checked this site out by now, you are missing out.

Now it's off to bed, tomorrow is busy too, practice for piano between classes (exam part 1 begins Wednesday) and then College Bowl all evening. I hope every single one of you had a fantastic start to your week!

Happy Friday!

I'm so excited for today! I'm just about finishing up my guest post that will be featured in a couple weeks (I'll share where it's at once it's published!).

I got some much needed rest last night and slept wayyy to hard. My roommate even got up this morning and I was so out of it that I never heard her leave. I got the capstone paper done last night, caught up on my google reader FINALLY, and got some stuff typed up for college bowl. responsibility champion!

I am also very much looking forward to around 5:30 this afternoon. I have an aunt, her husband, and my two cousins Edith and MacKenzie coming in town for a softball tournament. If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm a HUGE family person and unfortunately I haven't gotten to go home as often as I would have liked to this semester. But both I and my family are slightly okay with it because we all know that this is my last semester and I want to have as much fun as possible :)

Anyways, I will be spending the entire weekend at a softball field, cheering for Mac and a bunch of other girls I don't know. I can't wait to see them, it's been since my appendix surgery in February, and quite frankly that's been too long for me!

What are you excited about for Fridays? This weekend?

Have a great weekend friends!

p.s. bleh, I fail and also forgot to remind you all to link up to TexaGermaNadian's blog hop. It's one of the best :)
