Sometimes, I really have to remind myself that I DO love Oklahoma...

If you're new around here (which most of you aren't), you should know that I am an Oklahoman, born and raised. I have lived in various parts of this state my entire 24 and 1/4 years of existence. I seriously love this state to the moon and back. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to live other places, and traveling is definitely in my future, but I can't neglect the states where my roots run so deep.

Fall is the best time in Oklahoma (meaning late October/early November), because the air is cool and crisp to where you can wear jeans and a t-shirt and bring a jacket with you for when you go home after dark. The colors are beautiful. You see them all. It ranges from green to orange to yellow to red, and every shade of those colors in between. During a typical year, we get to experience, truly experience all four seasons.

This year is an exception to a typical year. After last year's freaky blizzard in February, we're actually experiencing the mildest winter I can remember. We even got up to the 80s on Thursday (first day of March!?). Normally, March is a beautifully rainy month. I'm really hoping that we do get some thunderstorms because I. LOVE. THE. RAIN. and Lord knows our state needs the rain in the worst way possible. We had a drought last summer as our state got sucked into this heat vacuum where we saw three digit temps for record days in a row.

I tell you about the weather and the colors for a purpose. Because we have had a mild winter, we haven't had a freeze this season. The trees and flowers are already starting to bloom, and I'm sure if I had gotten to spend Thursday in a park like I wanted to, I would have gotten a million mosquito bites. I did sit out in my car and read my book with the window open, and my chest got a little sunburned. (SUNBURNED! IN OKLAHOMA! IN FEBRUARY!) Since the flowers and trees are trying to bloom, it's causing everyone's allergies to go crazy. I don't usually have allergy problems, but I figure it's because of the mild winter that mine are going haywire.

I've been knocked out all week. My head is full and clogged, I can't really blow my nose but then it randomly drips like a faucet. I haven't had a fever, my chest hurts from the congestion, and my throat is sore from all the drainage. I know this is way too much information, but just deal with it.

I've been lurking in all your sites, reading them but not commenting. But honestly, I'm just taking this weekend to nurse myself back to health, sleep, take meds, and drink plenty of fluids.

I can't wait to see what weekend adventures await you all :)

Well, I don't have strep...

I went to the doctor at 2:30, and they told me I do not have strep throat. At least not bad enough that the strep test picked it up. He told me that it's not strep YET, so he sent me home with a prescription for an antibiotic and instructions to do some at-home remedies for a sore throat. So I get to gargle warm saltwater! yay! If my throat isn't better in a couple days, I am to get the antibiotic prescription filled and take it as instructed.

The Miranda Lambert/Justin Moore/Josh Kelley concert last night was amazing. I'm so glad that I talked myself into buying tickets. She is a phenomenal live performer, and she played just enough songs that it included a majority of her hits (including my 3 favorites: Kerosene, White Liar, and More Like Her--I decided to link them rather than embed them) but not too many songs that the concert lasted until 1 a.m. I got to go with roommate and another girl from my sorority. Here's a picture of the three of us before the concert, and a picture of each of the singers:
Garrett is a magic photographer. I look thinner!

Opening act #1: Josh Kelley

Opening act #2: Justin Moore

MIRANDA LAMBERT!!
As you can tell, I was kind of far away from the stage so all three of these were taken with digital zoom. But I was still close enough to be able to see well :)

It was Elizabeth's first concert, and she enjoyed it a bunch. She is now a lover of concerts!

If you didn't catch my feature over at Pocket Legos last Friday, do so now! Then go to their post from today and answer the question! There will be a new question every week that I sent her, and we are both interested to see what you all answer! So do it!! NOW. (You could even make a post about it if you'd like!!)

I was also a guest post person over at KT's Refinishing School for her Spring Break series on Monday (I told you all I've been busy!) So if you want to read about my St. Patrick's Day (with lots of pictures), head on over to her neck of the woods. My post is here.

AND, because that is enough about me for you to check out, you can also read the stories behind my two tattoos! The very pretty Lindsay of scenic glory allowed me to share my Tattoo Story(ies) as part of her Tattoo Story features. You can read that post here.

WHEW! did I throw enough links at you yet?? I hope you get to take a look at all the places aiukli is featured in the blogging world! I have another busy weekend ahead, and be expecting pictures from all of my adventures!

Happy Weekending!

I'm busy as a bee...

I know that I have been neglecting my blog and all of my blog friends. I do love this outlet and catching up with your lives dearly, but this week is super busy. Super super busy.

You heard of my busy Friday and Saturday. Sunday wasn't so busy, I was in bed most of the day recovering from my Saturday night. Then I went and visited my aunt Annya at her hotel that evening, followed by spending some time with a guy that I like to hang out with. Monday I did the whole class thing, but Monday was kind of crummy as well. I learned we have a nutritionist, and I feel like I'm being put on a diet against my will. I didn't do very well on my piano exam. Then we had formal dinner. I went and hung out with that guy again, and it was nice to get to escape the things that had stressed me out that day. We watched the awful men's national championship game together, a movie, and a couple episodes of Arrested Development. I've never seen Arrested Development before, and it's pretty freakin' funny. I was also introduced to some new music, wish I could remember names of artists...

Tuesday was super busy. I had class all day, and then I went to the OU/OSU bedlam baseball game to hang out with my APO little Nageen. My throat had felt funny all day, but I ignored it and went on with my day. Then yesterday I woke up with THE WORST sore throat ever. As the day progressed, it got worse and worse. Last night was our annual BBQ philanthropy, and I had to leave around 7:15 because I just felt so terrible. I went upstairs to check my temperature and it measured a 100.3. That's pretty high for me, as my internal temp runs a little cool at 97.4-97.6. I called home to tell them I thought I was getting strep throat, and Annya informed me that Emma has strep. I figure if I have it, it's from being at Chuck E Cheese's on Friday night, damn snot-nosed kids.

I tried to go to Urgent Care but seemed to have misplaced my insurance card since my appendix fiasco, and they wouldn't see me unless I paid for everything upfront. A whopping $112. Who has that much cash on hand? So instead of being seen last night, I came back home, drank lots of water, took some tylenol and vitamins, and took my sick butt to bed. I was in bed by 9:30 or so but I didn't fall asleep until almost 11. I slept for a solid 7 hours before I woke up, and my fever had broken in the night. I have an appointment at 2:30 today to be seen for strep, but now my ears are aching really bad.

If this is a bad case of allergies, this is the worst I've ever had. I don't really understand my body. I'm taking better care of it than ever before this semester, and it's not responding well. I usually have a kick ass immune system, but I've been sick THREE TIMES now.

And on top of all this, the week isn't slowing down at all.
I have tickets for Miranda Lambert's show in Norman tonight.
I have a BIG/little date with Nageen tomorrow--dinner and a movie.
Relay for Life is Saturday, 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
Sunday is Chapter and Initiation, and then one of my good guy friends from high school is coming into town.

Even though I'm sick and busy, this week has been good and fun so far! The BBQ last night was fun and I think it was successful, and I've enjoyed the time I've gotten to spend with Nageen getting to know her better. Our capstone project is also well underway and it's going pretty well so far!

Here's to hoping I get some rest in the next couple of days!

Just a Quick Update to let you know I'm still alive!

Hey guys,

Sorry I have been MIA for the past couple of days. I have been ill and yesterday got kind of bad (after I took a nap).

I am starting my first round of exams, I had a piano exam yesterday and I will have another exam today at 3 p.m.

The weekend will be nice and relaxing, and sports galore! I'm going to the baseball opening day tomorrow, followed by women's gymnastics, and then rounding out the weekend with OU/OSU bedlam wrestling.

The good news part:
So Way back in October when I first started posting consistently, I mentioned that I wanted to apply for Teach for America (I have even had discussions with some about this goal too.) I turned in my application on Feb 4, and found out this past Tuesday evening that I made it past the first round and have been invited to a phone interview! I will be doing my phone interview this Sunday, and from there I may be selected for a final in-person interview the week of spring break. So exciting!

Second, I was featured over at FTLOB on Tuesday! I was super pumped to see my header when it popped up in my google reader! (And hello to the new commenters/followers that came from there! THANK YOU!)

Third, yesterday I was featured on Scenic Glory for her "In Her Shoes" feature. I knew this one was coming, but I was anxious to see what photos she would use for my feature.

If you haven't checked out FTLOB or scenic glory yet, you need to! That is where I have found a majority of the people I enjoy reading and people who inspire me.

I've also met a girl who I would probably call a close friend through For The Love of Blogs as well. She's a fantastically beautiful lady.

So go check out my features, and check out the blogs themselves as well! You'll love them!

I will update more this weekend when I'm not trying to study for tests, do laundry, and overcome being sick!

Happy Thursday! It's almost the weekend!!

Love Letters - a blog hop

via scenic glory
So, I no longer have the 30 Days of Truth meme to do daily. I think I might have forgotten how to blog. So I figured, what better way to "jump back into blogging" than to participate in the "Love Letters" that is being co-hosted by scenic glory and For the Love of Blogs? (warning, this is my attempt at being a little humorous)

Dear cold medicine,

Honestly, you have been my savior today. I woke up this morning definitely NOT feeling like P.Diddy, and instead feeling like death's ass. I couldn't breathe, I had a sore throat, and my nose would not stop running. That is definitely not attractive, especially at 7:30 in the morning.

This cold took me out and made me have to miss my second class of the day, but you were waiting patiently for me to return home and ingest you. I was running a fever at that point, and the acetaminophen within your tiny capsules helped relieve that fever.

Once I woke up from my nap, you made me feel well enough to be starving, but without you I probably wouldn't have eaten.

I'm very sorry that I went to spin class and made every ounce of progress you made on getting me better disappear. And thank you for being there when I returned from spin class, patiently waiting for me to ingest you again.

Can you help me out tonight when I attempt to play basketball? We barely have enough people to play, and I'm really needed for the team.

Love,
Mallori

'Tis the Season?

WOW! I seriously CANNOT believe that it is already Christmas! WHERE HAS 2010 GONE?! I can hardly believe that a year has already passed since I thought I might not get to spend Christmas with my family (that was completely scary!). So, with that being said,
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I hope you get to spend lots of time with those you love, and that this holiday brings you more happiness than your heart knew it desired!

Unfortunately, I've been sick for the past 4 days, so it's kind of hard for me to completely feel like it is that time of year again. I had the misfortune of spending almost my entire Christmas Eve in bed while the rest of my family got to cook and get to spend all kinds of time bonding over the cooking! I seriously enjoy the cooking part of Christmas Eve. All I have to say is, I better feel well soon so I don't have a rough time while I'm in Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl...

Speaking of, my relatives gave way more than they probably should have, and I'm pretty sure I got plenty of money to fund my trip to the Grand Canyon State :) I'm very excited to be spending time with my big, yet again. We will be spending New Year's Eve together, and then cheering on our Sooners to what I hope to be a bowl victory (and that one of my wants from this post will come true!)!

Again, MERRY CHRISTMAS! May you be blessed to be surrounded by those you love....and per my beliefs, Jesus is the reason for the season, so remember to give thanks to Him for blessing each of you!

Sickness = no fun

I have spent the entire day in bed sleeping. Not because I am still catching up, but because I have been sick almost the entire day. I don't really know what it is that I'm sick with, I had a fever that broke and my chest hurts terribly. But instead of boring everyone with the pity party, I just wanted to challenge everyone to participate in a fun little project with me and my friends at A Grimm Tale called the photo swap. Last weeks post was a lot of fun for me, as it's my first time to participate in something across blogs! I'm also anxious to see what this next week's photo swap brings, as I'm sure many people will include holiday-fun photos!

For now, I'm going to watch my Gossip Girl and enjoy my home-made hot chocolate that my mommy made me :D (The hot chocolate is very yummy!)

If you see my tweets on the left hand side of the page, you might notice that I had tweeted about wanting to change things up with my blog. I think I've decided to do something a little similar to this photo for my banner:
However, I've got a couple ideas to make this photo more my own. I feel like it ties into what it is that I feel about my blog...searching for the beauty in things, but maintaining that everything can be seen as beautiful. I'm going to play around with it for now!
